What is a UAS?

Your department has been thinking about getting a "drone" but you're not sure how to get started. This is where UAS Fire Consulting LLC can help.  What most people don't realize is that they're acquiring much more than a "drone". They're purchasing an entire system.

Here's the difference:
"Drone" is a generic term for an unmanned aerial vehicle, or UAV.  Whether it's a quadcopter, a hexacopter,  an octocopter, or a fixed-wing aircraft like an airplane, the aircraft that flies is the UAV.  The unmanned aircraft system, or UAS, includes not only the UAV but also the operator controls, communications, data links, navigation equipment, and visual monitors.  The UAV is useless without the UAS.  The designation "sUAS" refers to small unmanned aircraft systems which are systems that operate UAVs that weigh less than 55lbs with their entire payload.  A sUAS unit will fulfill most, if not all, of your department's unmanned aircraft needs.
